King Edwin Wakefield, 90, of Lugoff, South Carolina, went to be with the Lord on Saturday, October 18, 2025.
Born on April 5, 1935, in Muskegon, Michigan, King dedicated his life to service, family, and craftsmanship. His commitment to his country was unwavering—he proudly served in the United States Air Force for 31 years, retiring as a Chief Master Sergeant. His distinguished career took him across the world to Korea, Vietnam, and Okinawa, where he met every challenge with strength and integrity.
Beyond his military service, King found great joy in his hobbies and handiwork. He was happiest in his barn, creating, fixing, and tinkering—a true jack of all trades and, as his family would say, a master of most.
King was the beloved son of the late Samuel Edwin and Marion Huizenga Wakefield, and the stepson of the late Marie Butler. He is survived by his devoted wife of 63 years, Carolyn Faye Rochelle; his son, David E. Wakefield; his daughter, Connie M. Abrams (Michael); his brother, Ronnie Wakefield (Dottie); and his cherished grandchildren, Benjamin Abrams and Meg Abrams. He was predeceased by his brothers, Dale Wakefield and Timothy Wakefield.
A service to celebrate King’s life will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Monday, October 20, 2025, at Powers Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
King will be remembered for his feisty nature, tireless work ethic, and generous heart that brightened the lives of everyone who knew him.
