Lorna "Jean" Stanley Maples Obituary

Jean Maples, a radiant source of love, creativity, and vibrant spirit, passed away on October 7, 2025. Born on May 16, 1940. She was the wife of the late Darryl "Bundy" Maples, Sr., and the daughter of the late Loren D. Stanley and Mabel O. Stanley.

Jean's life was characterized by her dynamic personality and her ability to bring color and joy into the lives of those she encountered. She enjoyed painting and painted not only beautiful canvases but also painted smiles on the faces of those she loved and those she served.  In the words of Vincent Van Gogh, "I dream my painting, and then I paint my dream," a saying that Jean exemplified.

Jean was a beloved member of the Springvale Baptist Church, where she provided both spiritual and emotional support to those around her. She was active in the "Tweenagers," a ministry to the senior adults in the church. She was also a choir member, and a Sunday school teacher. Her dedication and commitment to her faith were evident in her actions and her words.

Jean was a member of the Eastern Star.  She worked as a secretary for the Richland Two School District and retired after 28 years of service.

Jean leaves behind a legacy of love, creativity, and strength that will continue to inspire and uplift those who were fortunate enough to know her. She is survived by her daughter; Barbara Medlock (Randy) of Lugoff, and her son, Darryl B. Maples, Jr. (Donna) of Blythewood, grandchildren, Jay Cox (Martha), Chris Cox, Willie Cox, Terry Medlock (Starr), Kevin Medlock (Candace), Hunter Maples (Darby), and Tyler Maples; 9 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren.  Her family was her greatest work of art and her proudest accomplishment.

A funeral service to celebrate Jean's life will be held on Friday, October, 10th at 11:00 AM at Springvale Baptist Church in Lugoff, SC. The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 9th from 6 - 8 pm at Powers Funeral Home.
