Sigrid Rosalinde Jahnke Smith, born on May 22, 1941, in Angermunde - Germany passed away peacefully at home on Monday, October 6, 2025 where she was surrounded by her three loving daughters and a few close friends.  Her two sons and the entire family is comforted knowing that she is now in the healing arms of her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.  Her legacy of faithful servanthood to Him will be remembered by all.

After marrying her husband Julius, a Master Sergeant in the United States Army, she moved from Germany to Elgin South Carolina where she made her home a beacon of hospitality.  Sigrid had the unique ability to create a welcoming sense of inclusion and love to everyone who stepped into her home.  She developed her career as a Quality Control inspector with Townsend and Husqvarna manufacturing and was a woman of many talents.   She would spend her free time working in her yard, sewing or creating a special hand-crafted gift for those who just needed a little lift in their spirit. She treasured spending time with her precious grandchildren and her labor of love to them was to cook up a big pot of her famous potato soup, a side dish of eggrolls and some kind of sweet treat.  She enjoyed morning bible studies with friends, singing praises to Jesus, writing cards of encouragement and often would cook a warm, comforting meal for whomever the Lord laid on her heart that day. Her conversations with Him would be, “Lord- show me who you want me to bless today!”  Sigrid was bold in her faith, strong in her convictions and never afraid to tell those she encountered about “Her Jesus”.  As she grew older and a bit weary, she genuinely longed for the day to meet him face to face!

She is survived by her loving children, Patricia Branham (Oscar “Jr”) James Smith (Paula) Bernie Smith (Caroline), Susie Hellman (Tracy) and Pam Smith; Grandchildren, Robert (Stephanie), Rebecca, Ryan, Erica (Nathan), Shelly (Benji), Nick, Kinley, Layken, Caden, Jessica, Alex (Megan), Zach, Kellee, Mallory ; Great Grandchildren, Brelynn, Hudson, Ava, Hayes, Hope, Reagan, Caroline, Walker, Sterling, Ellis.

She was predeceased by her husband Julius Bernard Smith, her parents, Lothar and Charlotte Shuman Jahnke and her sisters Gisela and Ursula.

We invite all those who knew and loved Sigrid and her family to join us in celebrating her life on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Elgin at 3:00 pm.  Visitation with the family will start at 2:00pm in the fellowship hall at the church and continue at the graveside after the celebration of life service.
