Julia White Paciulan Obituary

Julia White Paciulan passed away on September 29, 2025.  Born to Asbury Britton White and Amanda Elizabeth Peebles White on February 21, 1931, she was the youngest of 10 children.  Julia was predeceased by her parents, six brothers, and three sisters.  Growing up in Lee County, she attended Central High School where she was Captain of the basketball team and Valedictorian of her class. Her involvement in school gave her lasting friendships and many stories to share with her family.

During her first marriage, Julia had three children whom she loved and nurtured throughout her life: Judy Newman (Walter) of Sumter, Chuck Stokes (Josie) of Spartanburg, and Tim Stokes (Lu Anne) of Spartanburg.  In 1979, Julia married Dr. Stanley J. Paciulan (deceased) and gained three stepdaughters Vickie Sloan (Mike) of Chapin, Karen Paciulan of Camden, and Judy Tolbert of Camden (deceased).  Family was a major focus of Julia’s life, and she welcomed each of her ten grandchildren into her world with an abundance of love, smiles, and expressions of support. Birthdays and holidays were opportunities for family gatherings, and Julia enjoyed hosting these celebrations whenever one came around.  Julia was fortunate and proud to see each of these  grandchildren reach a productive adulthood:  Graham Newman (Jenny) of Columbia; Britt Newman of Spartanburg; Clare Cook (Tyler) of Sacramento, CA; Betsy Conrad (Stephen) of Spartanburg; Sally Stokes of Charlotte, NC; Ben Moore (Kristen) of  Lexington; Jeff Herring (Stephanie) of Chapin; Becky Wilmes (Steve) of  Irmo; Brian Tolbert (Ashley) of Lugoff; and Brittany Foster (Will) of Fort Mill. These ten grandchildren blessed her with fourteen great grandchildren and three great-great grandchildren.

Although focused on family, Julia never wasted a minute.  She worked for South Carolina National Bank (later Wachovia) for more than three decades starting her career as a bank teller and ending as a loan officer.  During this time she was a member of various civic organizations (Pilot Club, UMC Women’s Group, and Daughters of the American Revolution) and the professional organization Business and Professional Women.  After family, church, work, and community time, Julia used the remaining minutes of her day to create.  Julia loved crafts of all kinds – especially painting, cross stitching, quilting, making dolls, and creating jewelry.  Every holiday gathering, she provided each family member with some handmade treasure to carry home with them.
