With profound sadness, we announce the passing on the 26th of September, 2025 of Helen Adair Hankins, a fiercely strong, loving, and generous woman who never met a stranger. Born in Fort Benning, Georgia on the 28th of July, 1953, Helen was a force to be reckoned with, full of life, kindness, and indomitable spirit. Throughout her life, she carried her passion for helping others, her love for her family, and her knack for making everyone feel welcomed and valued.
Helen was a talented jewelry maker, an avid animal rescuer, a Cub Scout Leader, the family scrabble champion, and a coordinator for the women's builds for Habitat for Humanity of Columbia. Helen's vibrant personality and zest for life were infectious, and she was a proud co-owner of the female founded Sandhill Shooting Sports in Lugoff, S.C.
Helen is survived by her husband, Roger Hankins; sons, Tom Crowe (Cindy), Michael Crowe (Samantha), and step-son, Brian Crowe (Angie); step-granddaughter, Elliot; and siblings, Harry Huntley (Kathy), Elizabeth Huntley Crenshaw, David Huntley (Anna), and Miller Huntley (Kim). She was predeceased by her parents, Wilbon Oisa Huntley, Jr. and Alice Arthur Wilson Huntley.
A visitation for Helen will be held on Saturday, October 4th, 2025 at 10:00 am, followed by a memorial service at 11:00 am at Powers Funeral Home, located at 832 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, SC 29078. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation.
