The world is a little less bright, a little less charismatic, and a heck of a lot less entertaining with the passing of our beloved James Boyd Howle, who departed on his next adventure on September 20, 2025. Born on July 28, 1940, in Hartsville, SC, James led a life that was anything but ordinary.
Jim was a man of many talents. He was as creative as he was smart, as generous as he was charismatic. He spent his career working as the Supervisor of Transportation for the South Carolina Department of Correction. When he wasn't supervising transportation, he was mastering the art of fishing, tinkering with cars, or indulging in his passion for movies.
Jim was a decorated veteran, having retired from the United States Army as a Lt. Colonel. He served in the Vietnam War and remained a patriot throughout his life. To add to his list of achievements, he held a Bachelor's Degree from Clemson University and a Master's Degree from the University of Southern Mississippi.
He leaves behind his daughters, Jennifer Howle of Charlotte, N.C. and Danielle Howle of Awendaw, S.C.; his godson, Daniel Turner of Elgin; his granddaughter, Nora Ruth Ernst; and his best-friend, Jean Turner. Jim was preceded in death by his parents, Julian and Ruth Howle. His spirit, however, lives on in the hearts of all who knew him.
A graveside service will be held on Wednesday, September 24, 2025, at 2:00pm in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, S.C.
