REMBERT- Mary Lou Watkins, 88, passed away at her home surrounded by family on Saturday, September 13, 2025. Born on June 9, 1937 in Chesterfield, she was a daughter of the late Burkett and Rosa Poston Johnson. Mrs. Watkins, wife of the late George E. Watkins, Sr., was a member of Community Bible Church. She was also a former member of the Wateree Mother's Club, taking several trips with them and performing community service. Mrs. Watkins enjoyed flowers and gardening and taking care of her beloved dog. The highlight of her life was her family, she loved spending time with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and would light up anytime they came to visit.

    Surviving are her sons, Timothy Watkins, Sr. (JoAnn) of Rembert, George "Joey" Watkins, Jr. (Rebecca) of Rembert, Tony Watkins of Camden; daughters, Debbie Holland (Mike) of Bishopville, Donna Poplin (Ric) of Black Mountain, N.C.; a brother, Harold Johnson (Jackie) of Lugoff; 13 grandchildren; and 16 great-grandchildren.

    In addition to her husband and parents, she was predeceased by siblings, Sibil Kirkley, Heyward Johnson, Gerald Johnson, Glenn Johnson, Ronnie Johnson, Linda Price, and Perry Johnson. 

    A funeral service for Mrs. Watkins will be held Tuesday, September 16, 2025 at 11:00 a.m. at Community Bible Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Jerry Peacock will officiate. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 10-11 a.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Community Bible Church Building Fund.

    The family extends a special thanks to SC Oncology and Dr. Sarah Mushtaq as well as MUSC Kershaw Hospice for the special care they took of Mrs. Watkins.
