With deep sorrow, we share the passing of Melissa “Ellie” Blanton, a cherished daughter, sister, aunt, and loving “fur mom.” Born on June 18, 2001, in West Columbia, SC, Ellie touched every life she encountered with her warmth and dedication. She lived to serve others, whether through her proud service as an Airman in the United States Air Force or in her work as a licensed esthetician, where she cared for others with the same kindness she gave to family and friends.
Ellie had an innate love for family and was known for her encouragement, her contagious laughter, and her ability to lift others up. She cherished the beauty of nature and held deep compassion for animals. A steadfast advocate for creatures without a voice, she often fostered pets in need, nursing them back to health until they found their forever homes. Her home was a sanctuary where her nurturing spirit shone.
She found joy in life’s simple pleasures: soaking in the warmth of the sun at the beach, listening to the waves, or unwinding in the quiet of a bubble bath. Her zest for life inspired those around her to slow down, practice self-care, and find happiness in everyday moments.
Ellie’s legacy lives on through her parents, Michael Blanton and Christie Xochicale (Luis); her siblings, Christopher Blanton, Amanda Blanton, Joshua Blanton (Leelynn), Jacob Blanton, Taylor Barnett (Dalton), Maria “Luna” Mendez, and Megan Sklar; her paternal grandmother, Harriett Blanton; her maternal grandparents, Annette Carroll and Billy Benton; her nieces Aubrey, Kinsley, Sadie, and Isla Blanton; Hazel Pettit, Ava Grzelewski, her nephew Bentley Bunnell; and her cherished fur babies Toby, Chase, Milo, and Itty Bitty.
She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfather, James Blanton.
Her profound impact will forever be felt in the hearts of those who knew and loved her. In honor of Ellie’s passion for animals, the family asks that donations be made in her memory to the Columbia Animal Shelter (Columbia, SC) or Final Victory Animal Rescue (Columbia, SC).
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Ellie’s life at a visitation on Tuesday, September 9, 2025, from 3:00–5:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, 832 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, SC 29078. A funeral service will follow at 5:00 p.m. at the same location. The burial will take place the next day, Wednesday, September 10, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC.
We encourage all who knew Ellie to share memories and photos on her memorial page. Your stories and images will keep her spirit alive and help us forever remember the love, kindness, and light she brought into this world.
