Milledge Newman, born on March 20, 1931 in Bethune, South Carolina, passed away peacefully on September 3, 2025. A humble man of integrity and strength, Milledge's life was a testament to his unwavering faith and dedication to his family, community, and country.
Milledge's life was a shining example of service, both in his professional and personal capacities. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and later retired from the United States National Guard after 30 years of service. He spent his career in textile manufacturing, where his leadership as a supervisor was highly valued. Despite his notable accomplishments, Milledge carried a humble spirit, always attributing his successes to the grace of God and the support of his loved ones. He also co-owned Jean Newman Realty in Lugoff with his wife and family. His faith was central to his life, as a dedicated member of the Lugoff First Baptist Church, where his steadfast devotion was an inspiration to all.
Beyond his professional and spiritual life, Milledge had a deep love for farming and the land, nurturing his crops with the same care and dedication he applied to every aspect of his life. He was also a proud member of the American Legion Post 17.
Milledge was predeceased by his wife, Jean West Newman; parents, James Elmer Newman and Evelyn Eubanks Newman; grandson, Dru Hunter; granddaughter, Meagan Newman; sister, Hope Norris; and brothers, Elton Newman and Paschal Newman.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Dianne Newman Kaehler (David) of Greensboro, N.C.; sons, Myron Millicent Newman of Swanee, Ga., Ronnie Matthew Newman of Bethune and Gregory Scott Newman (Karen) of Lugoff; sisters, Geraldine Davis, Rhea Knight and Lawann McCoy; 3 grandchildren; and 4 great-grandchildren.
The visitation will be held at Powers Funeral Home, 832 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, South Carolina, 29078, on Sunday, September 7, 2025, from 1:00-2:00 p.m. followed by the funeral service at 2:00pm at the funeral home. Burial will be held in Quaker Cemetery, Camden.
