Ernest "Humpy" Taylor Obituary

Ernest Lee "Humpy" Taylor, was born on September 14, 1965 in Camden, SC. Ernest, affectionately known as Humpy to those who knew him best, was a true artisan, a construction worker by trade, who found joy in crafting and creating with his hands.

Humpy’s love for his craft was rivaled only by his passion for vehicles. Be it trucks, cars, big wheelers, or tractors, Ernest reveled in the mechanics and designs of these grand machines. This passion extended from his professional life into his personal hobbies. He loved nothing more than spending a day under the hood of a car or behind the wheel of a tractor. It was here that Humpy was in his element, combining his love for building with his fascination for all things mechanical.

Humpy formed a family of his own through the deep relationships he forged with those around him. His parents, Johnny and Tiny Taylor, preceded him in death, but their spirit of resilience and love for life is carried on through Ernest.

Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Carolyn Henry of Bethune, Johnnie Mae Peebles of Camden, Delois Boykin of Camden, Betty Adamson of Cassatt, Josephine Adams of Camden and Mary Williams (William) of McBee; special friend, Carol Goodwin; and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins.  He was predeceased by sister, Betty Jean Taylor; and brothers, Bobby Taylor, Larry Taylor and Curtis Taylor.

His life will be celebrated and his memory cherished during the public viewing at Powers Funeral Home, 832 Ridgeway Road, Lugoff, South Carolina, 29078, on Friday, September 5, 2025 from 4:00-6:00 pm. The funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 6, 2025 at 11:00am at the Powers Funeral Home.
