Sarah Ellis Obituary

It is with heartfelt sadness that we announce the passing of Sarah B. Ellis, who departed this life on August 16, 2025, at the age of 75.

Sarah was born on June 5, 1950, in Camden, South Carolina, to her devoted parents, Samuel and Lottie Belle Ellis (both deceased).

She was preceded in death by her siblings: Delois Ellis, Lewis Ellis, Edward Ellis, Samuel Ellis Jr., Willie Ellis Sr., Mrs. Mattie Ellis-Reid, Mrs. Paulette Ellis-Turner, Mrs. Ella Ellis-Moore, Ms. Laura Ellis, and Mrs. Janie Ellis-Hockaday.

Sarah lived a modest and faithful life unto the Lord Jesus Christ, serving Him as her Savior for over 37 years. Through her love of Christ, she developed strong values and discipline, traveling the narrow and holy path with extraordinary strength and perseverance.

As a child of humble beginnings, Sarah and her sisters were resourceful in keeping the family together. After giving birth to her only son, Eric, she sought a new start and relocated to Roosevelt, NY, where she worked tirelessly as a machine operator at Shore Plastic. She labored long hours to provide a decent life for her son.

After 13 years of fast-paced city living, she felt New York was not conducive to raising her son, and she returned to Camden, SC, where extended family and friends provided a more nurturing environment. In 1983, after the passing of her father, Samuel Ellis Sr., Sarah’s love for Christ deepened, guided by Romans 10:9–10. From that day forward, she purposed to live wholly for her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

Her search for a spiritual home led her to Christian Fellowship Tabernacle Church, under the leadership of Overseer Marshall Osborne, where she became a devoted member. Later, when her elder sister Janie fell ill, Sarah returned to Long Island to become her caregiver. She sacrificed all she had built, showing her selfless integrity and devotion to family.

On April 17, 2013, her sister Janie went home to be with the Lord after a courageous battle with cancer. Soon after, under the fellowship of Elder Marvin Reid at Apostolic Liberty Church, Sarah decided to remain in New York to be present in her granddaughter’s life. She found great joy in watching her granddaughter graduate from college and blossom into a beautiful, God-fearing young woman and business professional—affectionately known as Jay Bird.

In her later years, Sarah loved walking nature trails, sitting by the water, and reflecting on God’s greatness and the beauty of life. Though she faced health challenges, she never saw them as obstacles but as opportunities to display her unwavering faith. She lived fully on the promise that “through Him all things are possible,” and she held steadfast to Psalm 55:22: “Cast your burden upon the Lord and He will sustain you; He will never allow the righteous to be shaken.”

On the morning of August 16, 2025, the Lord gently called her home.

A race well run, a job well done. Sarah, victory is yours.
