Debra (Debbie) Strawderman Barrett (age 66) of Canton, Georgia, loving wife of Michael Barrett and loving mother to Alexandria Barrett Carter passed away after a courageous battle with Huntington’s Disease at The Retreat At Canton in Canton Georgia on Monday, August 25, 2025.

Debbie was born on December 31, 1958 in Barberton, Ohio as the oldest child of Wayne and Marilyn (Brenner) Strawderman. Debbie’s family moved to Lugoff, South Carolina when she was in the 8th grade. Debbie graduated from Lugoff-Elgin High School (1977) and graduated from Clemson University (1981) with a BS in Electrical Engineering.

First Baptist Church Woodstock, GA was Debbie’s spiritual home, where she participated in the Creative Arts ministry in the costume department for many years and was an Awana leader. Professionally, Debbie was a Support Team Manager for Hewlett-Packard. Being a female in a male dominated field, Debbie loved being treated like one of the guys in the early days of her career. After being promoted to team manager, she took great pride leading the guys on her team.

Debbie was known for her compassion for others and her sensitive heart. Even sappy commercials would bring on the tears. She had a deep love for dogs, especially her beloved poodle Hunter. Her favorite pastime was traveling anywhere warm with sand, especially on a cruise or somewhere that started with a “H” (think Hawaii). She was also passionate about Flamingos, Hallmark movies, Clemson football and the Atlanta Braves. Debbie will always be remembered as one of those friends you could just be around and feel happy. She always smiled and made funny faces, she was so comfortable to just hang out with. Debbie had the most infectious laugh. Once she got tickled and started laughing, those around her would get caught up in her delight and laugh with her.

Debbie is survived by her husband of 42 years, Michael; daughter Alexandria Barrett Carter and her husband Nicholas Carter; mother Marilyn Strawderman; sister Linda Gates (Jesse); brother Dan Strawderman (Lisa); and many special nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends are invited to visitation at Sosebee Funeral Home at 191 Jarvis Street Canton, GA from 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM on Tuesday, August 26. A Celebration of Life service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, August 27 at Sosebee Funeral Home at 191 Jarvis Street Canton, GA. A graveside service will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, August 28 at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 1659 Kershaw Highway Camden, SC 29020.

The family encourages you to wear pink and/or flamingo attire to these events to celebrate Debbie’s love of both.
