It is with a heavy and loving heart we announce Robert Lee Crain, Jr. of South Mill, N.C., went home to be with God on Wednesday, June 25, 2025. Bob/Robbie as he was affectionately known as, was born on February 6, 1957 in Beaufort S.C., to the late Robert Lee Crain, Sr. and Hazel Jean Rhodes Crain.  Bob was raised in Norfolk, VA and graduated from Booker T. Washington High School. That being said, he spent much of his youth growing up with family in South Mills, N.C., enjoying their company and learning life lessons about fishing, hunting, cooking and farming. He also enjoyed visiting Columbia, S.C. where he spent time cooking and fellowship with his family.

Bob would go on to become a Master HVAC technician and used these skills to work for Climate Makers and the Department of Defense working mostly at DAM Neck/Oceana Airstation in Virginia Beach, Va. with nearly 50 years of dedicated work and retired in 2021. Bob was married to his lovely wife Catherine Crain and they raised a son Roscoe Wright who loved him very much. 

He is survived by his wife, Catherine Crain; son, Roscoe Wright (Tiffany); sister, Paula Castillo (Clemente JR); two nephews, Colbie and Brayde Castillo; and great nephew, Aiden Castillo.  Bob is also survived by many Virginia and Carolina relatives, one aunt,  Mary Alice “Babe” Rhodes Cartwright who was like a sister to him; cousin, Kim (G.S)  Gaston Cartwright Pinner;  his best friend and brother-in-law, Ron Hodge;  and a special aunt in South Carolina known to him as (sweetheart), Aunt Ruby Gonzales.  Bob was predeceased by his parents; father-in-law, JD Moore.       

A service to celebrate Mr. Crain’s life will be held on Thursday, July 3, 2025 at 3:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.  Pastor Nathan Scott will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
