John Parker Harris

John Parker Harris Obituary

John Parker Harris, 76, passed away on June 8, 2025. Born in Atlanta, GA on June 28, 1948, he was the son of the late Andrew Parker and Julia Davis Harris. Mr. Harris married the love of his life Sherry P. Harris on December 1, 1990. From that union he gained a beloved daughter. Mr. Harris honorably served his country in The United States Navy from January 21, 1969, to September 6, 1973. While in the military he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal. After leaving the service,  Mr. Harris went on to become an Electronic Technician for BellSouth before retiring in 2000. In addition to honorably serving his country, Mr. Harris faithfully served his church, becoming a member of Harvest Baptist Church in Lugoff, SC in 2001 where he and his wife remained until his passing. Mr. Harris enjoyed history, reading books, and metal detecting. He was known for his kind and gentle spirit and willingness to always serve and help others.


Left to cherish his memories in addition to his wife, is his daughter, Melanie Biersmith (Andy Biersmith) of Madison, GA; grandchildren, Drew and Sam Biersmith of Madison, GA; sister, Sandra Elrod of Buford, GA; nephews, Wayne Elrod (Lynne) of Atlanta, GA, Doug Elrod of Buford, GA and Duncan Elrod of Buford, GA; and other extended family members.


He was predeceased by his brother, Thomas Harris.


A funeral service will be held on Thursday, June 12, 2025 at 11:30 am at Harvest Baptist Church in Lugoff, SC, with burial to follow the service in Fort Jackson National Cemetery in Columbia, SC. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Harvest Baptist Church,  281 Wildwood Lane, Lugoff, SC, 29078.
