August Wayne Gardner Obituary

August Wayne Gardner, 76, passed away on May 25, 2025. Born in Parris, Texas on September 4, 1948 he was the son of the late August Thursday Gardner and Mavis Christine Griffith Gardner. Mr. Gardner was a soldier in the United States Army and served during  Vietnam. While in the service he received National Defense Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon Number One, Combat Infantry Badge, NCO Professional Development Ribbon number three, Army Commmendation Medal, Four Overseas Service Bars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Sixth Good Conduct Medal, Sharp Shooter Qualifaction Badge M-16, Expert Qualification Badge M-14, Drill Sergeant Identification Badge, Second Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry with Palm, Second Purple Heart, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star and two Bronze Service Stars and Airborne Wings. Mr. Gardner married his wife Tammy Sue Dexter Gardner on April 1, 1997 in Lugoff, SC. He was an outdoorsmen, he loved fishing and hunting and also had a servants heart. He loved to help his neighbors and anyone in need. He will be truly missed.


Left to cherish his memories in addition to his wife are his children, Jeffery “Jeff” Alan Gardner (Shannon), Christopher “Chris” Robin Gardner (Carolyn), Amanda Marie Dexter, Sorrell Raine Gardner, Sean Austin Gardner and Shane Robert Gardner (Camri); sister, Jane McClure; grandchildren, Shane Gardner, Brittany Tyler (Cody), Damion Gardner, Tyler Gardner, David Dexter, Jared Ramirez, Evan Williamson, Alina Wren, Pressley Koenig, Reagan Koenig, Alaysia Gardner, Austin Gardner, Andrea Gardner, Josie Gardner and Lacey Gardner; and 7 great- grandchildren.


He was predeceased by his brother, Danny Gardner and half-sister, Amber Fiegenbaum.


A graveside service will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Tuesday, June 3, 2025 at 11:00 am. Where military honors will be rendered.
