Obituary of Rex H. Kelly, Jr.

Rex H. Kelly, Jr., passed away on April 23, 2025 peacefully at home surrounded by family. Born in Sumter, SC, on September 24, 1966, he was the son of the late Rex H. Kelly, Sr. and Ada Bell Horton Stroud. Mr. Kelly faithfully and honorably served his country in the United States Army from 1985 to to 1990. While in the military Mr. Kelly was awarded the Army service ribbon, overseas service ribbon, army achievement medal, army good conduct medal, sharpshooter badge with M16 rifle bar, and expert badge with hand grenade bar. He drove trucks for Morgan Corporation for many years prior to his passing. Mr. Kelly enjoyed watching South Carolina Gamecocks, Oakland Raiders, NASCAR, wrestling, going to the beach and playing golf. But above all else he enjoyed being with his family and he will be truly be missed by those left behind.

Left to cherish his memories are his sons, Ryan James Kelly (Katherine) and Zachary Daniel Kelly (Dylan); siblings, Deborah Peebles (Ernie), Brenda Lee (Larry), Jenny Hall (Richard), Edward Kelly (Brenda), Linda Pittman (David), Dianne Boykin (Steve) and Jeanette Carron (Joe); grandchildren, Mayumi Kelly, Maylani Kelly, Liam Kelly, Jamison Kelly, Amelia Kelly; numerous nieces & nephews; former spouse, Donnel Kelly; cousin, Amber Stephens (Mitchell) and childhood friends, Michael Robinson (Patricia).

He was predeceased by parents, Rex H. Kelly, Sr. and Ada Bell Horton Stroud;  grandson, David Kelly; step-father, Floyd Stroud and maternal grandmother, Almetta Horton.

A funeral service will be held Monday, April 28, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church in Jefferson, SC with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends and family the night before on Sunday, April 27, 2025 from 3:00 to 5:00 pm at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, SC. Pastor Jacob Carron will be officiating.
