Obituary of Donald James Stewart
In the company of loving family members, DONALD JAMES (JIM) STEWART passed away February 14th at the MUSC Hospital in Kershaw, South Carolina. He was 82 years old.
Jim's father Donald Stewart, mother Alice Tyson, brother Bill Stewart, and former wife, Susan Stewart preceded him in death.
Jim is survived by his sister, Elizabeth, his son, David Stewart and wife Melissa, daughter, Abigail Boston and husband Barrett, daughter Stephanie Rosado and husband Antonio, five grandchildren, Jack Boston, Spence Boston, Archer Boston, Ian Stewart and Owen Stewart, as well as his partner of 30 years Faye Metzl and her sons, David Metzl, Ron Metzl and wife Kelly.
Jim graduated from San Jose State University and worked as an electrical engineer until he retired in his sixties. Jim enjoyed bicycling, reading, hiking, kayaking, photography., building things (including his last house), and tinkering in his garage with his bikes. Two of his photographs of spider lilies and the bald eagle are featured on the brochure for the Landsford Canal State Park in South Carolina. Jim loved bicycles and spending time in nature. His children and grandchildren share his love of the outdoors and bicycles.
Jim always wanted to ride his bicycle across the United States. He fulfilled that dream after he retired and rode his bicycle cross-country three times -all after his 65th birthday. On his last trip, Jim rode from his home in Kershaw, South Carolina, to his birthplace, San Jose, California for his 50th high school reunion, where he turned heads while being featured on multiple news outlets and a cyclist blog. He arrived back in South Carolina a few days before his 70th birthday!
Jim will be remembered for his kindness, integrity and appreciation of the simple things in life.
A private service with his family and friends will be held in Jim's honor.
