Obituary of Matthew Ryan Putnam

Matthew Ryan Putnam, 17, passed away on Thursday, February 6, 2025. Born in Columbia, SC, on December 14, 2007 he was the son of Daniel  “Dan” John and Judith “Judy” Louise Wolak Putnam. Matthew was a junior at Spring Valley High School in Columbia, SC, and was on course to graduate in 2026. He played for Spring Valley’s High School varsity football team as a defensive end, he was also an avid weightlifter, was a member of Sandhills Community Church, and was a member of the Airforce JROTC. Matthew enjoyed football, target shooting, weightlifting, gaming, being with his family and friends, but above all else Matthew loved Jesus. In every aspect of life, Matthew sought to demonstrate his unwavering faith in the Lord. Not only did Matthew seek to dedicate his life to the Lord but he also sought to bring others the good news of Christ. He was compassionate, yet a fearless young man, with a contagious sense of humor, with the heart of a lion. He will be truly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Left to cherish his memories are his parents, Daniel  “Dan” John and Judith “Judy” Louise Wolak Putnam; brother, DCFN John Thomas Putnam, US Navy; numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and the many friends, classmates, teammates, and all others who loved Matthew.

A memorial service will be held for Matthew on Saturday, February 15, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Sandhills Community Church in Columbia, SC. The family will be receiving friends prior to the service from 12:00 pm to 2:00 pm at the church. Pastor Chris Ledley will be officiating.
