Obituary of James Robert Burr

James Robert Burr, age 73, Of Camden, South Carolina, passed away on Saturday, February 1, 2025 at home. Born in Bennettsville, South Carolina, he was the beloved son of the late George Evans Burr and Sally Ivey Burr.

Jim graduated from Hartsville High School in 1969 and went on to earn his degree from Newberry College in 1973, where he was a proud member of the Alpha Tau Omega fraternity. His college years were filled with friendships and experiences that shaped his life and values.

Jim enjoyed playing golf with friends, spending time at the beach, and watching the Gamecocks play football. But, his favorite thing of all was walking around the neighborhood with his best little buddy, Happy.

A devoted member of First Baptist Church in Camden, Jim had a passion for serving his church and living out his faith. His relationship with Jesus was evident in all he did, and he inspired many through his kindness and dedication.

Jim is survived by his loving wife, Paulette Burr; his son Erich Haskell (Kelly Haskell); and his daughter Kristi Sargent (Jonathan Sargent). He found immense joy in being Pop Pop to his four granddaughters: Rylie Correll (Drew Correll), Ellis Sargent, Brynn Sargent and Maddie Haskell. Jim cherished his family and took great pride in their accomplishments, always encouraging them to pursue their dreams.

He is also survived by his brothers David Burr (Peggy Ann Burr) and Allen Burr (Sandi Burr), who will remember him for his warmth, humor and unwavering support throughout their lives.

A celebration of his life will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at 2:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Camden , with Pastor Clint Ellis presiding. In lieu of flowers, Jim requested that donations be made to Gideons International or First Baptist Church Building Fund . The family will be available at the church to greet friends one hour before the service.

Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.
