Obituary of David L. Sanders

ELGIN - Funeral service for David Lee Sanders, Sr., 72, will be held Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. at Lighthouse Christian Ministries with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Mark Sanders and Rev. Virgil Bagwell will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday 7-9 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Mr. Sanders entered into eternal rest Sunday, February 7, 2010. Born in Nashville, Tenn., he was a son of the late Arthur Hulon Sanders, Sr. and Winnie Bell Lee Sanders. He served in the United States Army and retired from the City of Columbia where he was a security guard. He enjoyed gardening, listening to birds, singing and playing the guitar at church, and playing at the Clyde Key Gospel Jamboree. He also loved fishing and was an avid fan of Johnny Cash and the 55 Chevy. He was a very giving man. Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Sara Rebecca Elkins Sanders; sons, David Lee Sanders, Jr. (Linda) of Elgin, Steve A. Sanders (Dalephine) of Lugoff, and Dewayne Sanders of Madison, Tenn.; daughter, Demecia Sanders (Donnie) of Old Hickory, Tenn.; brothers, Raymond Sanders (Tina) of Columbus, N.C., Hulon Sanders (Betty) of Nashville, Tenn., and Mark Sanders (Pat) of Goodlettsville, Tenn.; sisters, Sue Farris (Jimmy) of Lebanon, Tenn., Elaine Gnegy (Keith) of Pleasantview, Tenn., and Mary Creson of Nashville, Tenn.; and grandchildren, Rebecca Lynn Gambrell and Leah Faye Sanders of Elgin, Elizabeth Sanders and Jonathan Sanders of Lugoff, Ashley Harper and Larissa Harper of Old Hickory, Tenn. He was predeceased by a sister, Linda Stinson (John).
