ELGIN - A memorial service for Walter Fred Carpenter, III, 53, will be held Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Rev. Wayne Flowers will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Friendship Home, 211 Stratford Street Ext, Monroe, N.C. 28110 or Hospice of Kershaw County. Mr. Carpenter died Saturday, October 10, 2009. Born in Gaston County, N.C., he was a son of the late Walter Fred Carpenter, Jr. and Billie Wilkinson Carpenter. He was a member of Fairview Baptist Church in Marshville, N.C. and was a volunteer fireman with Ranlo Fire Department for many years. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. Surviving are his daughter, Tracey Barnwell and her husband Jerry Barnwell III of Elgin; brothers and sisters-in-law, Bain and Martha S. Carpenter and Scott and Teresa H. Carpenter; sister and brother-in-law, Elizabeth Lynn and James R. Shelton, Jr.; and grandchildren, Daniel Coltan Hayes, Elizabeth McKenzie Hayes, Carl Ethan Hayes, Lauren Skyler Hayes, and Caroline Marie Barnwell.
