I am literally crushed by this news. I've been texting and calling Dennis all week. I had no idea about this. My heart goes out to Dennis's entire family, especially mom. "Big Al," as I knew him was the best friend a man can have. My heart is empty today. I am so sorry that I was not at the funeral to honor this incredible man.

This big lovable man was taken to soon. He was a brother to me and an awesome friend. He treated my kids like his own nieces and nephews. We will miss him more than words can explain. Love you dennis

My thoughts and prayers go out to Dennis' mom and the rest of his family. I had the privilege of working with him at TAPPI. All of us at TAPPI will miss Dennis deeply. He was a good man who always strove to do the right thing and cared about people. It won't be the same around the office without him. He left us too early but now he has the best possible seat for every Clemson game.

I'm still shaking my head at the thought that "Big Al" is no longer with us. I met Al my freshman year at Clemson - always a great person to talk to. We had countless discussions about a little bit of everything but definitely sports and all genres of music. He graduated a few years before me, but kept in touch and whenever we bumped into each other we'd pick up right where we left off. We've been keeping in touch more recently since we both lived in Atlanta, the passing of our mutual friend (Pridge), and through social media. Same ol' Al. Been awesome since Day 1! You're already missed and that will continue. My thoughts, prayers, and love to all that he touched within his "extended family." Shout out to my thinka!

My Husband and "Big Allen" were lifelong friends! Allen was in our wedding and a all around great guy! I'll never forget when my baby was born (who is now 15) he brought her a Clemson Bear that played The Tiger Rag.....knowing that I was a die hard Carolina fan! She now is looking hard at Clemson as the college she wants to attend! I know that would put a smile on his face! You will be deeply missed. Prayers for his family as I know you will grieve his loss deeply! Heaven has gained a wonderful angel

I had the Fortune of meeting "Al" through my now deceased husband. He and my husband were like brothers after meeting at Clemson University. Al was like family to us and we will miss him. I am confident that he and my husband are together again talking about Clemson football.

I am Blessed and Honored to have known 'Al' for over 20 years. He had been a true and close Friend to my husband, Britt, all of their lives and a dear friend for me and our daughters, who they referred to as Uncle Al. I'll treasure him and our talks forever. Rest In Heaven, Angel. Portia Grooms

I was saddened yesterday when I heard of Dennis' passing. He was much too young, barely older than I. He had a big personality, a bigger body and an even bigger soul. I will miss him dearly as will all who had the fortune to ever come across his path. Rest In Peace my friend.
